This photo was taken at Punta Ninfas near Puerto Madryn, Argentina. This area is very secluded and peaceful during our visit we were the only people there for the entire day. At Punta Nifas beside admiring the amazing ocean view one can get very close to Elephant Seals if you are willing to laying on your stomach in order to not frighten them.

Punta Ninfas (Spanish, “Nymphs Point”) is found in Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.  A promontory into the Atlantic Ocean, it encloses one side of the Golfo Nuevo, with Península Valdés opposite almost enclosing the circular gulf.  The Point is about 90 km southwest of Puerto Madryn.

A lighthouse is situated at the Point, which is made up of high, bare cliffs.  Punta Ninfas is the location of an important colony of elephant seals, whose breeding season occurs from September to December, with their moulting season taking place from January to April.

We were told by two other travelers from Australia that if we approach the seals crawling on our stomachs they would let us get close.   After seeing Salli and Brad’s pictures, Jason and I were determined to get as close as the seals would let us.  Make sure you check out our entire album by clicking on the picture below to see how close we were able to get to these beautiful creatures.
