Photo of the Day: Maragua Crater Near Sucre Bolivia

| Taken by Aracely | No Comments » | Photo of the Day

The naturally formed crater of Maragua was created by the landscape rising, versus the more common volcano craters. A small village rests peacefully in the crater, where school children congregate from all the surrounding tribes. The site was part of a 3-day trek out of Sucre, Bolivia with Condortrekkers.

Photo of the Day: Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

The Salkantay Trek is an alternative hike to Machu Picchu that provides incredible mountain landscapes, jungle vegetation and snow below your boots.  The varying environments make it one of the most beautiful and challenging treks to Machu Picchu.  Early in the morning rivers had a frozen surface, steam escaped our mouths and mountains were artfully blanketed with snow.

Photo of the Day: Best View For Bathing In Hot Springs

This is the greatest scenery you could ever imagine while bathing in natural springs. The hot springs are located in the Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Bolivia, which is included in the 4 day Uyuni Salt Flats Tour. We stopped to enjoy lunch just inside the park’s entrance where the springs empty into a large lake. Once you were in the pool, you didn’t want to get out, because the weather was freezing!

While flying from Cusco to Lima, Peru, be sure to book a window seat.  The aerial views of the rugged Andes mountain landscapes are something you will rarely see.  In this travel photo, snow capped mountains escape through the thick cloud cover.

Machu Picchu is one of the greatest sites to visit in all of South America.  The awesomeness of the Inca ruin can only be understood when you are actually there walking through the ancient city.  It’s a very difficult place to take great photos, often cloudy, raining and swarming with tourists.   A patient photographer would probably visit for several days trying to get the perfect picture, but the entrance fee was too steep for us.

Photo of the Day: Making Wine In Mendoza

Most wine tours booked out of Mendoza, Argentina explore wineries in Maipú, 16 kilometers from downtown Mendoza. A wine museum is a wonderful point of interest in Maipú. The museum contains giant old barrels, traditional wine making tools and actual wine making on the premises.
