Hey I just came upon your website and I think it’s awesome how you did the map the way you did. We actually just did a similar 3 month trip down from Cancun to San Jose while carrying a whiteboard and getting travelers messages. I really like how you have the route and different colors…how did you do that with google maps? Thanks and have a fun trip
Thanks Justin! I´m glad you like our map. It has cost me some work. Y es, we use google maps (my maps feature.) It got a little tricky because google maps uses pagination. When this occurs the points don’t all appear on the same map, however there is a work around. If you are using this and need any help let me know. I´d be glad to assist you. Thanks for following!
This is a fab map. I’d love to learn how to get past the pagination and how to fill the colors in on the countries. Did you hand-draw the lines and fill in?
Josh, great idea. I will think about how I can do that.
Deborah, I used the Draw a shape feature on GMaps so technically, yes it is somewhat hand drawn. The pagination issue is a bit more tricky I will find the link where I found the explanation and post. Thanks.
First get the URL of the KML export. When viewing your My Map, right click the ‘View in Google Earth’ link and copy the link to the
clipboard (probably something like ‘Copy Shortcut’ or ‘Copy Link
Location’ – depends on your browser’)
Now display your KML again. I have found it best to open a new Google Maps window, probably just go-to http://maps.google.com and paste in the URL copied earlier INTO the search box, and click the Search Maps button.
You should now get a display of your My Map – that doesn’t page.
This new ‘map’ remains a live copy of the original My Map, so you can continue to edit the main map and this copy will automatically update (subject to a small delay due to caching)
Furthermore it should be a functional map, so you can save it back to ‘My Maps’ – where it will be put in the ‘created by others’ section (it doesn’t know you created it anymore) – which has the benefit of being able to distinguish which is the original and which is the copy.
This also means that the map can be embedded – useful to embed the original My Map but with out paging[1]. And to the end user should barely be able to tell the difference.

The map turned out good! That looks like a long way to Argentina!
Thanks! It’s one of my favorite features (after the videos). It’s a long way to Argentina for us by bus or for you by plane?

Great Map! I’d love to know how you set this up- perhaps you should do a google maps how-to blog post.

I found pagination details in the Googlemaps help section – thanks!
How to solve the pagination issue:
First get the URL of the KML export. When viewing your My Map, right click the ‘View in Google Earth’ link and copy the link to the
