There is no way my parents could have made it up that steep climb. I do appreciate that Machu Picchu provides a way for all to see the ruins, regardless of your physical capabilities. We visited Machu Picchu via the Salkantay Trek. It was tough, but wonderful. It was worth it for us, but I know it’s not for everyone. We did the three day hike from Ollayantyambo and it was magical. One of the best trips ever. I hear there are now some amazing lodges along the trail if camping is not your thing.
